IAA Students Analyze “Homegrown Eats”

May 7, 2014

Students, faculty, and staff filled 251 North for the kick-off celebration of Terp Farm. The “Meet & Greet: Homegrown Eats” festival brought together a diverse crowd from agriculture, nutrition, dining, and sustainability. The room was filled with music from student bands, aromas from multiple cooking demonstrations, planting activities, information booths, multimedia tools, and raffles. Terp Farm is an exciting new campus initiative to produce fruits and vegetables for Dining Services using sustainable methods, while also creating opportunities for hands-on learning. Spearheaded by Allison Lilly, the Sustainability and Wellness Coordinator for Dining Services, Terp Farm has generated impressive collaboration between departments on and off campus. Here at IAA, we have already started integrating Terp Farm into coursework.    Students in INAG 205 Analyzing Alternative Enterprises put together a fun and interactive display for Homegrown Eats. Their poster summarized findings from an assignment in which they analyzed the potential profitability of eight different crop enterprises that Terp Farm is considering undertaking. If that was not enough to grab attention, everyone was eager to play our “Guess the Seed” spinning wheel game.   Stay tuned to hear about more opportunities to get involved with Terp Farm here at the IAA!
