IAA Instructors Receive MVP Nominations From Student Athletes

January 26, 2015

When it comes to athletics, we’ve all heard of the M.V.P.  The most valuable player award is bestowed upon the top-performing member of a team, league, etc.  The University of Maryland, however, does not reserve MVP for its athletes; the school proudly recognizes its Most Valuable Professors as well.

The IAA is proud to have two MVPs on its faculty:   Oral Communication faculty members JoEllen Barnhart and Amy Fisher.  Both lecturers joined the IAA in August and quickly became popular teachers on campus.  Barnhart was recognized in the fall by the women’s field hockey team as “an outstanding professor at the University of Maryland.”  And, Fisher earned the same recognition from the Maryland Wrestling team at its match on Sunday, January 25 against Ohio State.

Maryland’s athletics department’s vision is “to be the best intercollegiate athletics program while producing graduates who are prepared to serve as leaders in the local, state, and global communities.”  Therefore, classroom success is imperative and top-notch instructors are appreciated.

“All of our faculty are MVPs,” says IAA Director Glori Hyman. “They all truly care about their students and want them to succeed.  I am glad to see JoEllen and Amy recognized for their excellence.”
